As the world awaited the start of the 2024 Paris Olympics games, threats of physical and digital attacks made news headlines, especially with the potential for bad actors to increase visibility to their causes on the world stage. Given this heightened risk landscape, a corporate executive planning a trip to Paris for the Games required executive protection services as a proactive measure to mitigate any threats that should arise.

Mission and Response

Upon receiving the client’s request, the Global Guardian team selected and briefed an agent from within its Special Operations Division to oversee and execute the mission. With previous experience supporting high-profile clients at large-scale events, the agent was well-versed in the challenges that come with providing close protection services in dynamic environments.

Leveraging its robust intelligence network and on-the-ground teams, Global Guardian briefed the principal and key stakeholders on the mission details and the risk environment in Paris. Additionally, in preparation for supporting the client — and other travelers — during the two-week long event, our Operations team worked with local agents to identify multiple safe locations, hospitals with adequate medical capabilities, and private and commercial airports outside of Paris in case an emergency occurred during the Games.

The agent arrived in Paris days before the principal to conduct an advance, visiting hotels and venues to understand potential threats to their plans over the course of the trip and meeting with the local drivers.

Once the principal arrived in Paris, the agent accompanied him around the clock for four days, going on morning runs, attending social engagements, and visiting Olympic venues. The agent needed to be flexible for any unexpected changes to the planned itinerary.

Throughout the entire mission, Global Guardian’s 24/7 Operations Center supported the agent on the ground, tracking their location and providing the agent with insight into any threats.

Thanks to comprehensive preparation and planning between Global Guardian’s Operations Division and local, on-the-ground teams, the mission was a success, and the principal enjoyed his time in Paris without incident.
